Tim Douglass

Tim Douglass has been the editor/publisher of the publisher of the Pope County Tribune and Starbuck Times since 2005. He is a fourth generation newspaperman. His great-grandfather, grandfather and father all edited and published the Lakefield Standard, a weekly newspaper still published in Lakefield, a town in southwestern Minnesota. Before coming to the Pope County Tribune and the Starbuck Times, Douglass was the publisher of the Granite Falls-Clarkfield Advocate-Tribune for 13 years. Before that he was editor of the Paynesville Press, St. Peter Herald, Jackson County Pilot and was a reporter and photographer for the Lakefield Standard. He and his wife, Kim, have three grown sons-Michael, Thomas and Joseph.
Deb Mercier
Pope County Tribune Editor

Deb started her career in journalism as a high school intern for the Osseo-Maple Grove Press (a long, long time ago). As she worked on her English degree at St. Cloud State University, Deb also worked as a copy editor at the university’s newspaper, the Chronicle. Her comic, Skewed View, cropped up on those pages for a time, too. Life after college brought Deb to Glenwood, where she worked as a technical writer at Dairyland Healthcare Solutions (now Healthland). In 2000, Deb decided she missed adjectives and enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts – creative writing program at Minnesota State University Moorhead. After four years of serious commuting, Deb graduated with an MFA in creative writing. Deb began contributing to the Tribune in 2005 as a proofreader, columnist and occasional feature writer. In Nov. 2011, Deb scored an official cubicle, became a Tribune staff writer, and eventually filled the news editor position. When she’s not writing or taking photos, Deb dives into her projects as a children’s author. She lives in Glenwood with her family, loves good pizza, and saves turtles from roadways whenever possible.
Erika Andreas
Office Manager

Erika Andreas is the Bookkeeper, Circulation Manager and an Advertising Sales Representative here at the Pope County Tribune. She is a long-time employee of the Pope County Tribune (since March 2002). Erika lives in Starbuck with her husband Mike, and daughters Mikalyn and Payton. All three keep her very busy. Erika loves spending time at the lake and whenever she might have a minute to herself, she enjoys reading.
Angie Cole-Olson

Angie has worked at the Tribune since 2006. She grew up in the Clarkfield/Granite Falls area and she graduated with a degree in Communication Art and Design from Alexandria Community and Technical College. Angie manages a sales & design role within the Tribune and strives at multi-tasking. She grew up in a large family on a farm, so she is used to the chaos and the busy atmosphere that comes with a newspaper. She has lots of experience in marketing, advertising, sales, branding, logo & print design. Angie and her husband own Lane Studio and the Coffee Studio in Glenwood where she can be seen as a barista or working alongside her husband photographing weddings. She lives in Glenwood with her husband, Lane and their children, Lola and Beckham, and cat Henry. She enjoys a good book, a strong cup of coffee, and time with her family & friends.
Derek Holten

Derek Holten currently works in Production at the Pope County Tribune. He went to school at Alexandria Technical College and then joined us in August 2005. Derek was born and raised in Starbuck where he enjoys to spend a lot of time on the lake. He loves spending time with friends and family, and you might recognize him from behind the bar at the Waters Edge where he still works part time.
Erica Stoen

Erica Stoen is a graphic designer here at the Tribune since December 2013, and also does custom paintings. She graduated from the Communication Art and Design program at Alexandria Technical and Community College in 2012. Erica grew up in Glenwood and Starbuck, where she enjoys spending time with her animals, riding horse and being creative.
Zach Anderson
Starbuck Times Editor

Zach started at the Starbuck Times in 2011 moving from Garretson, SD to start his career in Journalism. Before coming to Starbuck Zach did an internship at the Madison Daily Leader in Madison, SD focusing mostly on feature stories. Before that he was Assistant Sports Editor at his college newspaper, The Collegian, which focuses on happenings at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Zach enjoys watching sports in his free time.
Mark Beasley
Sports Reporter

I came to the Pope County Tribune in June of 2007. The Tribune was looking for a sports reporter and took a flyer on a guy with no newspaper experience. I have worked in the Graphic Arts/Printing business for over 30 years, so that experience helped. Attending sporting events was the easy part, learning to use a professional camera took some getting used to. A less-than-busy sports summer allowed me time to get the hang of shooting sports before the fall high school season kicked into gear. I enjoy watching the local kids play ball, but my favorite is watching the real little kids chase a ball around. It reminds me of my son when he was little. I have two kids, Tim and Grace, both married and living in the Twin Cities. I enjoy umpiring JV baseball. It's given me a respect for officials in all sports, and the difficulty of doing a good job for the players, coaches and fans. Next time you want to yell at a ref, don't!  Well, at least think first, then yell.
